Michael Nakagawa, better known as DJ Naka G, is an experienced, sought after and versatile DJ with over 20 years in the industry. He has always had a passion for music, he has an undeniable talent to read and connect with crowds, tell stories through his track selections, and leave people with a soundtrack for their indelible memories.
His impressive list of events includes the last three Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, Sochi and PyeongChang as well as the last Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He has been a resident DJ for the ESPN Winter and Summer X Games since 2002, a resident DJ for the Burton Open Snowboarding Championships since 2010, a resident DJ for US Open Tennis, the resident DJ for Aspen Snowmass, and also DJs Toyota Grand Prix snowboard and free-ski competitions.
Naka G has provided the soundtrack for some of sports most historic events but that doesn’t limit him to only rocking stadiums, full of thousands of spectators, as he has the ability to connect with even the most intimate crowds of all ages. He continues to do so by spending his life being music curator. “Some people collect visual art. I collect musical art,” he says. He stays inspired by legends, but also embraces the fresh and new. “Variety is the spice of life and if you don’t keep an open mind, especially to different types of cultures and genres of music, then things can eventually get boring.” That’s exactly how he connects with the masses, by being unprejudiced and letting music bridge the gaps.
